In 2037, the remains of our ecosystems are kept alive as well as possible in massive preserves. Zoa, a biology student, lands an internship in one of these preserves and notices the system is far from perfect. Scorning the rules, she ventures ever deeper into the preserve, crossing paths with good faires: five female scientists as inspiring as they are endearing. Through them, she gradually comes to understand our relationship with the living world is far more complex than she'd ever imagined. Les fées scientifiques (Science Fairies) is a fable both ecological and feminist, drawing on tropes from science fiction, nonfiction comics, and coming-of-age tales.
