The aim of the grant is to promote an offer of quality translations of works written in French or one of the languages of France, representative of literary and scientific diversity, to a global readership. The funds are to support publishers taking economic risks to publish quality, diversified works that are accessible to as large a readership as possible. The works in question may be published in print and/or digital format. 

The grant application is made by the publisher of the original French work which has sold the rights to a foreign colleague. 

Amount of aid: 40% or 60% of eligible translation costs €834 to €35,000.

The French cultural network abroad consists of more than 150 branches around the world. 

Some of the local French Institutes and Embassy Cultural Services offer financial assistance programs for publishers (PAP): these programs are aimed at local publishers committed to the publishing of local versions of fiction and non-fiction works by Francophone authors. The Institut Français is a public industrial and commercial institution -an agency of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Culture. Its mission is to promote French culture abroad, including books. The French Institute of Paris assists foreign publishers wishing to include works by French-speaking authors in their catalogues through partial or full financial aid to help cover the advance for rights transactions between French and foreign publishers. 

There are two committee meetings yearly: The first is in February and the second in September.
