A debut novel remiscent of The Slap by Christopher Tsiolkas and God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza

At the end-of-year party for an elementary school in Haute-Savoie, the father of a student physically strikes one of his child's peers. The principal of the school and the police do nothing, but Lorraine, the victim's mother, refuses to let the man get away with it. She'll go to any lengths do fix address this injustice, even as the lies holding her own family start to show. For the incident has stirred in Lorraine a painful memory from her own childhood, a time when adults didn’t protect their children as they should have.
