Veganism is catching on quickly in the West. Part of a rich philosophical tradition, it expresses two psychological tendencies most of us share: an aversion to animal suffering and a desire to save the planet. In so much as veganism remains a minority affair, challenging deeply rooted habits, it has endured myriad critiques from representatives of processed food industry, as well as intellectuals. But these debates have not always been equal to the high stakes at hand. Disagreements between supporters and their adversaries are often founded on the same misunderstandings.
