"Hello, Cat. See you later, Dog. I can’t take you with me today, we’re going to the zoo!" Ducks, ostriches, chimpanzees, snakes, and big cats appear across these two-page spreads as our young narrator takes us on a tour of the zoo. He discovers all sorts of animals, marveling at porcupines, lions -- they're all awesome! Sometimes he's scared, but presses on. After getting to know this unfamiliar world, the boy returns home, happy to find his pets waiting. The book’s large format gives us a child’s-eye view of the world of the zoo. No cages are depicted, and the boundaries between wild and domestic animals become blurred. Maybe cats and panthers aren't so different after all?
