In 2015, Morgane Seliman published her memoir as a survivor of domestic violence, revealing the horror and humiliation of what far too many women experience. Early in their marriage, Yassine was overly protective of Morgane, but this soon gave way to blatant jealousy, mistrust, and eventually violence. His punishments worsened when their child was born. The psychological and physical torment continued for years, until Morgane was able to escape her husband with their child. But even then, she was not completely free. This graphic novel adaptation of Morgane’s memoir attests not only to her strength as a survivor, but also the ugly truth of what happens behind closed doors.
