Do you know the ten components of a work of art? If not, this book is for you, regardless of your age. It allows readers to discover them in a concrete, playful and physical way starting "with the simplest, the point, then the line, the form, the material, the tool, the color, the contrast, the volume, the composition and the perspective," explains Raphaël Garnier, author-illustrator of Art'bracadabra, known for the successful web-series Mon œil produced for the Centre Pompidou with the aim of introducing artistic creations to children. Raphaël Garnier has adapted his paper films for Amaterra editions.

To keep things fun, the book has shutters, a wheel, transparencies, pull tabs, embossing and special inks. The reader can play with these different elements so as to better assimilate them. "This book is a source of knowledge created to give the reader a better understanding of art and encourages them to explore it in a new way," explains Éric André, publisher at Amaterra. A concept that quickly seduced France readers and media: "This very creative and playful work is in and of itself a work of art" says Le P'tit Libé, and according to the Gazette du Mucem, "each page is a performance piece and a real way to get to know the creative process."

"A long-term project"


"This is the kind of creativity that foreign publishers look for in French works," adds Éric André.
But which are not easy to sell abroad. "These special format books represent a long-term commitment in setting up international co-editions, because we cannot count on a large print run to make it financially sustainable on its own before we sell it into other territories. With Art'bracadabra, little by little we have made inroads with interested publishers, regularly adapting our model for each publisher based on a hypothetical total print run," says the publisher.

"Its high production cost was a real challenge in the winter of 2020-2021 when we were setting up this co-edition because museums were mostly closed, which eliminated this sales outlet and made it a challenge for our sales teams." says Florence Pariente, agent at Ttipi agency who has, to date, sold the rights in four languages: Simplified Chinese, Korean, Spanish and Italian, to both children's and adult book publishers. A good model across the board, because co-publishing not only made it possible to translate the work into different languages, but it also made it possible to reprint the French edition.
