Chandigarh: A Journey

Category Art
At the foot of the Himalayas, the capital designed by Le Corbusier.

Chandigarh, the Indian capital of Punjab at the foot of the Himalayas, was the only time in his life that Le Corbusier was able implement his urban theories on the scale of an entire city, at the request of Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru in 1950.
Photographer Manuel Bougot set out to portray the city's intimate side. But when confronted with the imposing architecture, his project evolved to tell the story of a city whose inhabitants call it "The City Beautiful".
Light years away from the images that leap to mind of Indian metropolises, Chandigarh enjoys magnificent green spaces where squirrels and monkeys roam free and locals do their daily jogging.
