After twenty years of working in the film industry, Benoît Cohen is drained and looking for inspiration. He decides to take up work as a taxi driver in New York city in the hopes that this experience will inspire his next film. He must first navigate a maze of bureaucratic paperwork to obtain a driver’s license before setting out to discover the world from behind the wheel of an iconic New York City Yellow Cab. Over the course of thousands of passengers, Benoît will learn of many prejudices that taxi drivers suffer and how the profession is viewed by customers, cops, and the city at large.
