Dominique is the story of a baby born in 2002. Their mother, France, is the sole descendant of a line of women who all had childred at a very young age. A youthful, somewhat aimless idealist, France wants to keep the baby but refuses to impose upon them the gender biology has assigned. And so she does her utmost to afford Dominique the greatest latitude in choosing their sexual identity, the idea being to let their personality develop outside social pressures. The book comes to a climax in the year 2014, at a pivotal moment in twelve-year-old Dominique's life.
