In 1981, Helmut Newton, one of the greatest fashion photographers of his generation, moved to Monaco at age 61.

But this move was in no way a retirement. The period from 1981 to his death in 2004 proved among his most prolific and incontestably the freest of his career. Monaco gave Newton an original settting for his work. He also produced many iconic portraits there, notably of David Bowie, Michael Cimino, Isabelle Huppert, Paloma Picasso, David Bailey, Robert Evans, and more.
