At once victim and culprit when it comes to the climate, economic, and health crises now plaguing us, cities have no choice but to become sustainable. To meet the needs of an ever-growing urban population, cities must be reconceived from the ground up: the way resources are produced and used, modes of transport, the role of nature, modes for collective living.
This work begins by laying out the four pillars of a sustainably city, without which no lasting transition can be made. Then, drawing on cities in France and beyond as examples of burgeoning reinvention, the book goes on to detail solutions available for cities wishing to take up the challenge of sustainability and develop possibilities for further progress.
