Nellie Bly was a great woman of the 19th century, long overlooked but now increasingly talked about. Never idle, she wrote incisive reports denouncing the conditions suffered by women and the working class. Her investigative reporting laid the foundations for the genre of undercover journalism. She even went so far as to have herself committed to a women's mental asylum in order to investigate it! She is also famous for taking up a challenge to beat the title character of Jules Verne's novel and traveling around the world in 72 days.
