Sophia is a textile design student of diverse heritage. Her thesis topic is assigned: she must study wax fabric. The young woman is reluctant at first, but through working in a fabric shop, visiting the factories of the major Dutch manufacturer Vlisco, listening to the stories of African women, and discovering the meaning behind the wax patterns gifted by her father, she begins to uncover the richness of this cloth—one that weaves connections between Africa, Europe, and Asia.
