GENRE Photography
The American photographer and gifted painter, Saul Leiter, was a contemporary of Robert Frank, a friend of Eugene Smith, and a pioneer of color photography at the famous New York School.

Born in Pittsburgh, Saul Leiter moved to New York at the turn of the 1940s–1950s. There he encountered the Abstract Expressionists and discovered street photography, although his singular images of the city stand apart from any direct influence. He reveals his mastery of color in cityscapes where reflections, transparencies, complex framing, and mirror effects come together to compose a unique kind of urban symphony.
