Driven by a growing impulse to preserve heritage, collections in the performing arts continue to expand, frequently bringing the theater of the past back into the spotlight in the form of exhibitions. Yet, this is far from obvious: how can one capture an ephemeral art in a museum? This richly illustrated work analyzes more than 350 exhibitions, from the late 19th century to the present day, and shows how museums are actually the perfect place for rethinking the stage.
