Philosophy of Pregnancy

Keywords Maternity - Essay - Philosophy
A plea for a new feminism based on the specificity of pregnancy and childbirth.

Pregnancy, often overlooked by philosophy and by certain feminist currents, nevertheless concerns all women and, more broadly, all of humanity. By rendering the experience of "being pregnant" invisible, women's bodies are erased, along with the fundamental debt owed to the maternal body. At a time of reproductive choices and medical advances, it has become urgent to think about pregnancy as a philosophical experience in its own right, in order to recognize women as the subject of their own pregnancy and to promote an embodied feminism.
