The 193 UN Member States form the entirety of the (geo)political world map. In the margins of this international order exist atypical territories: Somaliland in the Horn of Africa, Transnistria in Eastern Europe, or the self-proclaimed micro-state of Liberland. These territories often have a people, a government, and even a currency, but they are not recognized as States in their own right by the international community. At a time when war is returning to Europe, the geopolitics of ghost states shed light on worldwide changes.
