Climate change, biodiversity loss, health crises... The Atlas of the Anthropocene amalgamates all existing data on the ecological transformations of our time and aligns them with human behavior.
Intensive farming, industrial fishing, the explosion in the consumption of fossil fuels, lifestyles; this atlas clearly outlines the phenomena causing the degradation of the planet, as well as their global nature. Each theme is covered in two pages of text, graphs and maps to help readers better understand this age.
"The unique aspect of this atlas is that it links the different crises to one another (biodiversity, climate, the ozone), to illustrate what social, economic and environmental impacts, they have on each other, and that they are all playing a part in our planet’s transformation," explains Nathalie Larmanjat, Head of Foreign Rights at the Presses de Sciences Po.
Co-edited by the renowned academics, ecologists François Gemenne and Aleksandar Rankovic, this book outlines the fundamentals of a complex subject and proposes better ways forward. "Essential, for a subject which has become a major target of fake news and controversies," says the magazine Alternatives économiques; while France Culture sees it as a "call to action" .
This atlas "allows readers to understand why it is pointless to claim to dominate, master and own the Earth, and that the result of this ridiculous notion is to risk being crushed by the weight of it," writes Bruno Latour in his preface.
Over 40,000 copies of the Atlas of the Anthropocene have been sold in France. It is now in its third edition. Booksellers, readers and the press have high praise for this work. It targets anyone interested in the environment and climate change. It is widely used by high school and higher education teachers.
Italian rights have been sold.
